Tiger Airways: Welcome to Sydney!

Posted by roshodgekiss in Airfare Sales, Airline News, Domestic Airfares

Today’s inaugural Tiger Airways flight from Melbourne to Sydney heralds yet greater rivalry over the world’s second-busiest route, with the Singapore Airlines-backed carrier threatening to usurp Jetstar and Virgin Blue with its combination of marketing savvy (including the upcoming ‘Airways’ TV series) and a seemingly endless supply of $39 fares.

Of course, this is exciting news for Sydney travellers, as the greater competition will ultimately mean more competitive pricing across all carriers and raises the potential of more affordable connections between Sydney and Asia.

Sadly, one can almost hear the sheep reclaiming Avalon Airport, as budget-flyers ditch the inconvenience of Jetstar’s Melbourne connection for Tiger’s Tullamarine flights. Not only are Tiger fares cheaper at present, but certainly Tullamarine is the more accessible and upmarket option, with all the trimmings of an international terminal.

More power to Tiger Airways, let the fare games begin!
