Meet Viva Macau. They may not have flashy ads or notable marketing budget, they don’t fly daily, but they do offer very cheap flights from Sydney to Macau and beyond. Right now, they’re offering fares for $276 one way, $583 return inclusive of tax until 31 July, for the travel period of 1 August to 17 December. That’s right, sale fares in December. I can hear the rattle of the roulette table already…

Earlier, I wrote an article on getting to Macau / Hong Kong on the cheap, which included a little more insight into Viva Macau. The short of it is that flying via Macau is an inexpensive way to get to Hong Kong, so if gambling doesn’t float your boat, catch the hydrofoil over to Hong Kong and hit the shopping streets for Peking duck and more ‘Pucci’ handbags than you can stuff into your ‘Bolex’ watch. Or something like that.

Viva Macau are also offering reasonably-priced flight + hotel packages. For example, return flights and a 3 day/4 night stay at a 4-star hotel (with breakfast) are quoted as starting from $472 (+ $360 in taxes), for holidays between now and 29 September. Check out Macau.com’s promo page for details and to book.
