Malaysia Airlines have released their Global Getaway sale, for travel until June, 2010! Although I don’t think their fares to the UK and Europe are particularly flush with some of the ripper deals on right now, their Asia fares are certainly worth a squint. Some highlights include:

• Sydney to Tokyo for $822
• Sydney to Bangkok for $851
• Sydney to Johannesburg for $1710

All fares are for return flights and include taxes. Sale is on now until 4 September, for travel between 17 August – 30 November and 6 January – 30 June, 2010.

I’ve been on the prowl for ski-season sale fares to Tokyo, however I’ve found that while it’s easy to nab a cheap flight to Tokyo in February, finding a bargain fare back is less forgiving. So take note that some routes bay be blacked out during the sale period. Another note too is that I’m not a fan of their booking system. Their flexible date search feature doesn’t work, so have some patience. Hopefully those cheap fares will come to you. And once you’re done, don’t forget to flash your Virgin Blue Velocity card for frequent flyer point goodness!

Malaysia Airlines has extended their run of great sale fares departing Australia to not only Malaysian cities, but to Asian destinations as well! Sale destinations are:

• Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
• Penang, Malaysia (home of my favourite char kway teow!)
• Singapore
• Manila, Philippines
• Bangkok & Phuket, Thailand
• Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

For example, Sydney to Manila return fares are selling from $725 return including tax, which is awesome as they usually retail for about a grand. Sale is on now until 15th August, for travel for various travel dates extending until June, 2010! Malaysia Airlines have made a point of flogging their Perth to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia route every weekend for the last month, so forgive me for the repetition. To spice things up a little, not only are they offering Perth to KL for $215 inclusive of tax, but Perth to Langkawi, Penang and Kuala Terengganu for $275! [...]

Malaysia Airlines is offering one-way fares to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for $205 including tax on its ‘Get-a-Deal’ site this weekend, for travel between 18 July and 31 December. The amazing thing about this sale is that it goes right into the Christmas peak period! Please note that you will have to book the return leg separately in order to get this deal.

In so much as navigating the ‘Get-a-Deal’ site deserves its own post, here’s the skinny on how to get this fare:

1. Sign up to MAS ‘Get-a-Deal’ (note: I don’t think selecting a specific group makes much of a difference)
2. Once that’s done, log-in using your credentials on the blue right-hand panel
3. Select the “International” button
4. Click “Australia” to see the Perth deal
5. Click on your desired departure date. You will be redirected to a booking screen.
6. Select “One Way” and “My dates are flexible” and input your departure details again (ie. Perth to KL, date of departure)
7. Hit “Search”, select your fare and book!

Please note that you can only book the Perth to KL leg via this booking system. If you would like to book a cheap return leg, either check out malaysiaairlines.com or check Adioso for AirAsia’s specials. Sale ends Sunday, 12th July. Happy travels!
